Project Description: Design a solution to a critical problem that humans face, whether it be local or global. Focus on the benefit your product can have on our world by using soft materials.
Research Problem: Women are the fastest growing population in prison. There are about 231,000 women and girls incarcerated in the U.S The problem that I chose to focus on is the lack of access to quality feminine hygiene products for women in prison

Research and Persona
absorbency.
reusability.
simplicity.
My design objective was to create a reusable sanitary napkin absorbent enough to prevent leakage but also be simple in function to accommodate the lifestyle of my target audience

I ideated several different to try and address my design criteria.
After constructing low-fidelity prototypes for my three concepts, I chose to go forward with my first concept because it best satisfied my criteria of being absorbent, reusable, and simple. I made refinements to my design and higher fidelity prototypes.
Final Model
Usage Demonstration
Learning Outcomes: Attempting to teach myself how to use a sewing machine to attach fabrics together and create my product posed quite a challenge at first. However, I appreciated the chance to work with materials I have limited experience in to design a product that address a social problem that I find important.
